Meet GPM585M: Infrared Sensitivity & Precision Guiding

The GPM585M is a cost‑effective guide camera for deep‑sky autoguiding and infrared imaging. Housing Sony's IMX585 monochrome back‑illuminated CMOS sensor (1/1.2‑inch, 2.9 µm square pixels, 3840×2160 resolution), it achieves outstanding gains in sensitivity, dynamic range, full‑well capacity and read noise. Boasting high QE at 650 nm for excellent infrared response, it performs great for infrared Milky‑way capture from light‑polluted urban locations.

Unlock Infrared Possibilities

GPM585M AR-Coated Protective Window

The GPM585M is fitted with an AR-coated protective window. The original window measures 19 mm in diameter and 0.55 mm in thickness, and is secured within the adapter by a retaining ring.

For expanded infrared imaging, the camera's front window can be easily removed and replaced with a user-selected filter. Compatible third-party filters may be 19–22 mm in diameter and approximately 1 mm thick, making it easy to adapt the camera for infrared imaging applications.

High‑Performance Readout

GPM585M High-Performance Readout Architecture

The GPM585M incorporates a native 12‑bit ADC delivering 4,096 grayscale levels for richer tonal detail compared to conventional 8‑bit output. Supported by hardware ROI, it achieves higher frame rates when capturing smaller regions, perfectly suited for high‑speed autoguiding targeting guide stars.

Additionally, software‑based digital binning ranging from 1×1 to 8×8 stacks or averages adjacent pixels to boost signal‑to‑noise ratio. This function proves particularly useful for faint‑star guiding, enhancing guide‑star signal strength and supporting stable guiding lock.

OSC vs. Mono: Which Do You Need For Autoguiding?

One-Shot Color (OSC) Guide Cameras

Equipped with an RGB Bayer filter array, one-shot color guide cameras deliver colour star images directly without extra filters. They are convenient for quick setup and visual checking of star colour. However, the Bayer filter blocks part of incoming photons, reducing sensitivity. Pixel interpolation also slightly lowers the effective resolution, making OSC less ideal for faint guide stars or light-polluted sites.

Monochrome Guide Cameras (GPM585M)

Monochrome guide cameras capture 100% of incoming photons with no Bayer filter losses. They offer higher sensitivity, better SNR and stronger performance on dim guide stars. In light-polluted urban skies, mono cameras are much more likely to pick up faint guide stars that colour cameras cannot detect. No filter wheel is required for autoguiding. They are the preferred choice for most deep-sky astrophotography setups.

Why Choose GPM Series Guide Camera

STARVIS 2 Technology & Built-In Frame Buffer

STARVIS 2 Technology & Built-In Frame Buffer

Powered by Sony's next-generation STARVIS 2 back-illuminated sensor technology, the GPM series delivers lower dark current, lower read noise, and higher dynamic range. Its built-in frame buffer temporarily stores image data for stable, complete transfer, helping reduce dropped frames and transmission errors during high-speed capture or multi-camera operation.

High-Sensitivity Low-Noise Multi-Purpose Imaging

High-Sensitivity, Low-Noise Camera for Autoguiding & Multi-Purpose Imaging

With high quantum efficiency and low read noise, the GPM series reliably detects faint guide stars for precise autoguiding. Beyond autoguiding, it is also well suited to lunar, white-light solar, and planetary imaging.

Compact Form-Factor & Versatile OAG Compatibility

Compact Form‑Factor & Versatile Compatibility

Featuring a compact body and standard 1.25‑inch interface, the GPM series guide camera easily attaches to OAG. With an optional 1.25‑inch extension tube, it works with 1.25‑inch visual‑size telescopes.

USB Type-C and ST4 Flexible Interfaces
