For reasons that elude me, The helical focuser joins directly to the oag body in a neckless arrangment. This prevents anything of a larger round diameter connecting to the OAG-L. My particular case involves trying to connect this to the Esprit 120 .065 Apex reducer. If you had access to the full circle of the body circle it would not be an issue, but since it is truncated on one edge by the helical focuser, you are all out of luck. The answer would appear to be to go for the OAG-X which does have a neck connecting the helical focuser to the body. Good if you are connecting to a much smaller diameter scope.
to much time has passed. could you let me know where the parcel is? and why it as not been delivered yet? thanks
This is the first OAG I’ve tried so I have no means to compare to other brands, anyway, it’s sturdy, good construction but three out of 20 screws that I have to install (a lot of screws!) the screw head were stripped. It is very easily to get the head screw stripped, the screws are small, difficult to grasp and very easily stripped out, I wish there would be a better and easily method to assemble. I bought the L version and definitely need the filter wheel package option since changing the filter without this adapter means to dismantle everything (>12 screws! and head screw strip risk at any of them). This is the only OAG I’ve tried and I noticed It’s very easy to use with a touptek camera and very difficult with any other camera so I don’t know if that will be the case wit an OAG from another brand. I have yet to tried in a session for test if it will focus "well", I mean guide camera and main camera at the same position. Anyway, so far my conclusion is: I wish there could be an easy way to do off axis guiding.
Had one night of trying maybe I need to raise the prism a little more to get it out of the way of the main camera. But my guiding numbers have improved significant. so far so good.
The helical focuser is very nice. This is my first OAG and using it with the Askar 71F, ToupTek ATR585M and AFW-M. I was a bit concerned at first as the blue focuser ring just spun freely. The OAG-L didn’t come with an allen key to tighten the set screws for the focuser ring. I found one that worked in my personal toolkit but didn’t feel like I could get them as secure as I'd like.
