For this capture, I put the newly released ToupTek SkyEye26AC Plus into action. Since many are curious about this new line, I present below a detailed analysis of its performance under the skies of my observatory.

Astrophotography under the exceptional conditions of a Bortle 2 sky places high demands on any equipment; the absence of light pollution reveals both the finest celestial subtleties and any imperfections in the optical and imaging chain. With this in mind, I decided to integrate the new ToupTek SkyEye26AC Plus into my observatory for a rigorous series of field tests, selecting one of the sky's most challenging and iconic objects as the target: the Pleiades open cluster (M45). The primary goal of this session was not merely to produce an aesthetically pleasing image, but to evaluate hardware stability during fully automated, long-duration routines and to observe how the sensor handled the complex interplay between faint blue reflection nebulosity, background interstellar molecular dust, and the intense glare of the system's brightest stars.

From the moment I unboxed the camera, the solidity of the anodized aluminum chassis stood out—a crucial design feature for ensuring structural rigidity and preventing any flexure or unwanted tilt in the optical train during mount movements.

In daily observatory operations, a standout feature was the integrated USB hub, which allowed me to connect the autofocus unit and guide camera directly to the SkyEye26AC Plus; this reduced cable complexity running to the setup's mini-PC and drastically minimized the risk of cable snagging throughout the night.


Furthermore, the built-in optical window heating system proved highly effective, keeping the glass perfectly dry and free of condensation, even during the early morning hours when relative humidity rose significantly.
In terms of electronics and thermal performance, ToupTek’s integration of the Sony IMX571 APS-C sensor exceeded expectations; the dual-stage TEC cooling system brought the sensor to an operating temperature of -10°C within minutes and maintained impeccable thermal stability throughout the session without fluctuations.
Upon examining the raw calibration frames, the complete absence of amp-glow greatly streamlined the workflow, yielding perfectly clean dark frames and eliminating the need for complex corrections related to residual illumination artifacts.


Meanwhile, the internal 512MB DDR3 buffer played a crucial role in ensuring seamless, lossless data transfer via the USB 3.0 port, guaranteeing that no frames were dropped during the rapid download of high-resolution files.
For this capture, I paired the SkyEye26AC Plus with the ToupTek Hope D60 telescope; the combination worked perfectly, producing excellent images. When pointing the telescope at M45, the camera's real-world performance in high-gain mode revealed the true potential of this setup: the ultra-low read noise, combined with a high full-well capacity, allowed for the faithful capture of the delicate dust veils and reflection nebulosity surrounding Merope and Maia, without causing the brightest central stars to become excessively blown out or lose their natural brightness gradation. The 16-bit sensor's color fidelity delivered very natural tonal separation right from the initial RGB histogram stretch, highlighting the deep, vivid blue of the illuminated dust against the dark deep-sky background. In short, the ToupTek SkyEye26AC Plus proved to be an extraordinarily reliable tool, combining physical robustness, streamlined automation, and professional-grade image quality.
