ToupTek Astrophotography StellaVita App 2.0 Transformation

For many astronomy enthusiasts, equipment is more than just a collection of tools—it becomes a trusted companion on the journey of exploring the night sky.

This story comes from Wuwuwu, one of ToupTek's StellaVita early users. From first discovering AstroStation, to participating in the StellaVita App 2.0 beta program, and eventually building a complete ToupTek imaging ecosystem, he has witnessed the product's growth firsthand while documenting his own deep-sky astrophotography journey along the way.

First Impressions of StellaVita

ToupTek Smart Astrophotography Wireless Controller StellaVita

The StellaVita controller continues the classic compact rectangular design commonly seen in astronomy equipment, with carefully chamfered edges that give it a refined appearance.

What stands out most is its visual design. The device features a deep matte-black finish accented by silver astronomical engravings, creating a perfect balance between professionalism and the mystery of the cosmos.

At the center of the front panel is a spiral galaxy motif, surrounded by constellation outlines, stars, and icons representing astronomical equipment such as cameras and telescopes. The overall design successfully combines the romance of space exploration with the practical nature of astrophotography.

Compared with the launch version that I originally purchased, the current StellaVita includes several thoughtful refinements:

  • The label beneath the Wi-Fi icon has been changed from "ToupTek" to "StellaVita," giving the product a stronger identity.
  • The brand name has been relocated to the side of the device for a cleaner appearance.
  • The naming of the four DC power output ports has been optimized for improved usability.

While the overall design remains familiar, these small refinements demonstrate the team's commitment to creating a more polished and user-friendly product.

From AstroStation to StellaVita App 2.0

At the beginning of 2024, although I did not yet own any ToupTek products, I was already attracted by the  its open astronomy ecosystem philosophy. As a result, I decided to purchase the AstroStation controller.

Due to work commitments, I initially used it only occasionally, mainly keeping up with firmware updates and maintenance. During that period, I followed developments such as the AstroStation renaming ,  Star Map improvements, and network module upgrades, but I had limited hands-on experience.

Everything changed when the announcement of the StellaVita App 2.0 release reignited my interest.

I gradually expanded my setup by adding a ToupTek astronomy camera, an electronic focuser, and other accessories, eventually building a more complete imaging system.

In early 2026, I had the opportunity to participate in the StellaVita App 2.0 beta testing program. Through regular use, I could clearly see the progress the StellaVita had made. What once felt somewhat unfinished had evolved into a practical and dependable system capable of meeting my daily imaging needs with ease.

A Real-World Deep-Sky Imaging Test

Astrophotography Setup with ToupTek StellaVita + ATR2600C astro camera

By the end of 2025, I had finally assembled a complete ToupTek setup.

In early 2026, I traveled to Yunnan, China, bringing my telescope and imaging equipment for a field test under dark skies.

As a StellaVita App 2.0 beta user, I spent several consecutive nights imaging deep-sky objects. Throughout the trip, the ToupTek smart controller performed reliably and exceeded my expectations.

Although a few minor bugs occasionally appeared, they never disrupted the imaging workflow. In the end, I successfully completed multiple deep-sky imaging sessions and captured several targets without issue.

For astrophotographers who regularly image in the field, this kind of reliability is often more valuable than an extensive feature list.

The Progress of StellaVita App 2.0 and Expectations for the Future

One of the most impressive aspects of StellaVita App 2.0 is its user interface.

The updated UI features modern design elements, smooth animations, and intuitive workflows. It has matured to the point where it can confidently compete with many established solutions on the market.

Device compatibility has also continued to improve throughout the development of version 2.0. My ST17R equatorial mount integrates seamlessly with the platform, reflecting ToupTek's ongoing commitment to building an open and flexible ecosystem.

Of course, there is still room for further improvement.

On the hardware side, network functionality currently relies on an external network module, and the USB Type-C interface does not yet fully leverage higher-speed data transfer capabilities.

Following recommendations from fellow users, I added an external router to my setup. As a result, the transfer time for a single RAW image from my ATR2600C dropped from roughly 10 seconds to around 3 seconds, significantly improving efficiency during winter imaging sessions.

On the software side, features such as mosaic planning, automatic flat-field exposure, and live stacking are still missing. However, the frequency and scale of software updates demonstrate the development team's continued investment in the platform.

Note: Live Stacking is now available in StellaVita.

I would also like to thank Alexei from the ToupTek technical support team for providing patient guidance and answering my questions throughout my imaging experiences.

I've heard that the next generation of hardware is already under development, which makes me excited about what comes next.

It has now been two years since I first began using AstroStation. Over that time, I have watched it evolve into today's StellaVita App 2.0.

To me, this is not simply the story of a product upgrade—it is the story of a trusted companion that has accompanied me on countless nights under the stars.

This is not the end of a journey, but the beginning of a new chapter.

I sincerely hope ToupTek continues to grow, innovate, and push the boundaries of what's possible, helping more astronomy enthusiasts explore the universe with confidence and creativity.
